According to Genworth Financial’s 2019 Cost of Care Survey, seniors in Hollywood pay an average of $3,250 a month for assisted living. This is $250 less than the Florida median and on par with the average rate charged in neighboring Alabama. The cost in Georgia is $110 higher, at $3,335 per month, while the rate in South Carolina is identical to Florida’s average at $3,500. Tennessee has the highest monthly cost in the region at $3,900 per month.
Hollywood’s assisted living rate of $3,250 per month is one of the lowest in the state — only Sebring has a lower average at $2,836. Costs in other cities in the southern half of Florida vary by almost $1,200, from $3,000 in Punta Gorda to $4,195 in Naples. In Port St. Lucie and Palm Bay, assisted living costs average $3,500 and $3,800, respectively. In North Port, seniors pay $3,925, while in neighboring Cape Coral, the rate is slightly higher at $4,000 per month.
Hollywood residents who are eligible for Florida Medicaid coverage and meet certain functional requirements can get help paying for assisted living through the Statewide Medicaid Managed Care Long-Term Care Program. To qualify, applicants must be aged 65 or older, require a nursing home level of care and meet the program’s financial guidelines.
