Home to the most beautiful town square in Texas, Georgetown is a charming historic city that’s just 25 miles north of Austin. The community ranks as one of the best places to live in Williamson County and is one of the state’s 35 best retirement destinations. It’s also one of the nation’s fastest growing cities according to U.S. Census data. The city’s population is just under 80,000, and senior citizens represent approximately one in three residents.
There’s no question that Georgetown is a beautiful place to live with its storybook neighborhoods, scenic Hill Country surroundings and dazzling Red Poppy Festival, which attracts more than 30,000 visitors. However, the city has much more to offer, including 40 parks, 16 miles of hiking and biking trails and a 50,000-square-foot library. Georgetown is also home to more than a dozen assisted living facilities that charge $5,395 per month on average.

Due to Georgetown’s location in the desirable Austin metropolitan area, assisted living rates are moderately higher than the state and national averages, according to Genworth Financial’s most recent Cost of Care Survey. Area seniors can expect to pay $5,395 per month for care. Based on these estimates, monthly rates are $895 higher than the state median of $4,500 and $1,344 higher than the U.S. average of $4,051 per month. In general, assisted living facilities in Texas are anywhere from $400 to $1,325 more expensive than neighboring states in the South and Southwest, and cost premiums are even more substantial when compared to Georgetown and Austin.
Assisted living facilities in Georgetown are among the most expensive in the state due to the city’s proximity to Austin and Round Rock. In the nearby cities of College Station, Killeen and Waco, assisted living facilities cost anywhere from $1,230 to $1,680 less per month. Even major cities like Houston, Dallas and San Antonio offer rates that are anywhere from 23% to 30% cheaper. Cost differences are similar in midsized cities like Brownsville and Corpus Christi. One exception is El Paso where assisted living facilities charge just $2,000 per month or about 63% less than those in Georgetown.

Georgetown residents who require assisted living or nursing home care but are unable to afford these services may be eligible for financial assistance through the state’s STAR+PLUS home and community-based services program. This Medicaid waiver can help with the cost of many services provided within assisted living facilities, including personal care and physical therapy. Eligibility is based on medical and financial criteria.

Type A and Type B assisted living facilities in Georgetown are licensed and regulated by Texas Health and Human Services.
