At an average monthly cost of $5,000, assisted living in California is higher than the national average of $4,300. Costs are lower in the neighboring states of Oregon ($4,659), Nevada ($3,595) and Arizona ($3,900), but prices are higher in Washington ($5,750) to the north.
Yucca Valley at $3,900 has some of the lowest costs in the state. However, costs are even lower in Stockton ($3,500) and similar in Madera ($3,913), while those on the coast in Salinas ($7,100) pay the most, with Santa Cruz ($6,800) in second place. Mid-range prices are found in sunny San Diego ($4,525) and Redding ($4,500), but both are about $600 more than Yucca Valley.

California’s Assisted Living Waiver provides those who need a nursing-home level of care but who would prefer to remain living in their own homes, including in assisted living facilities, with financial assistance paying for some of the services associated with maintaining an independent lifestyle. Direct services include assistance identifying and navigating the red tape involved in applying for service-based benefits, outpatient dental treatment, medical benefits and clothing allowances for those wearing prosthetic devices due to the result of a service-connected injury. |
