Assisted Living in Visalia, California

Visalia is one of the medium-sized cities that make up California’s southern San Joaquin Valley Grapevine. Home to 135,000 people, 11.5% of Visalia’s citizens are seniors aged 65 and over. Located around 3 hours north of Los Angeles on CA-99, Visalia is the gateway to both Yosemite and Sequoia National Park in the Sierra Nevada mountains to the east. Visalia’s inland climate tends to be hot and dry for much of the summer, with very mild winters and just enough rain for the surrounding vineyards, many of which are open to the public for tours. Visalia’s relatively low crime rate encourages local seniors to enjoy long evening strolls through the carefully preserved oak parks, shopping in the historic downtown or easy rides on the area’s many miles of bike trails.

Assisted living in Visalia costs an average of $4,548 a month, though prices vary by location and amenities offered by the specific community.

Visalia Assisted Living Financial Assistance

Medi-Cal is California’s Medicaid health insurance program for low-income residents. This program offers beneficiaries an Assisted Living Waiver that helps cover many of the costs of room and board in an assisted living facility. Seniors who are at risk of placement in a nursing care home at Medi-Cal’s expense may apply for this Home and Community-Based waiver program to delay or entirely avoid moving into a nursing facility. The ALW also pays for many of the caregiver and other support systems seniors need to stay independent in assisted living communities, such as personal care, help with activities of daily living and non-emergency medical transportation for outpatient and adult daycare.

You can learn more about the Assisted Living Waiver, how to apply and whether you might be eligible, at our Assisted Living in California page.
