Among cities in Florida, The Villages has the most expensive assisted living costs, followed by Tallahassee, at $4,775 per month. To the south, costs in Orlando, at $4,274, are roughly $1,000 less each month, and costs drop even lower in Lakeland, to $3,498 per month. Along the coast, Port St. Lucie ($3,500) has the same costs as Lakeland, while Miami ($3,250) along the eastern coast and Tampa ($3,250) along the western are among the lowest in the state. Florida’s Department of Elder Affairs, which oversees and administers the state’s Medicaid system, also operates the Statewide Medicaid Managed Care Long-Term Care Program (SMMC LTC). The SMMC LTC program helps delay nursing home placement by providing services and supports, including financial assistance, to seniors living in assisted living communities.
