The community is a smaller, family-friendly area, bisected by the Brazos River and with low crime rates that may make it attractive to retirees. Texas Medicaid administers an assisted living waiver, the STAR+PLUS HCBS program, open to all those who receive Texas Medicaid and Social Security Income. Eligibility is also based on whether an applicant needs a nursing home level of care. The wavier may pay for accommodations in an assisted living facility or for a caregiver and home health care assistance.
