The average price of assisted living in San Clemente is $4,525 per month, $475 lower than the Californian average of $5,000 but $225 higher than the national figure of $4,300. At $4,659 per month, average costs in Oregon are similar. Prices are significantly lower in Nevada and Arizona, where one month of assisted living costs $3,595 and $3,900 on average, respectively.
Prices in other Californian cities vary widely. Los Angeles has a significantly higher cost at $5,000 per month. Prices remain high along the coast, averaging $5,845 per month in Oxnard and $5,000 in Santa Maria. The inland city El Centro ($5,825) is also expensive. Riverside ($3,900) offers one of the lowest costs in California, while Salinas ($7,100) has one of the highest.

California’s Medicaid program, Medi-Cal, offers the Assisted Living Waiver to pay for the costs of assisted living. To qualify, a senior must be 65 or older, have full-scope Medi-Cal eligibility with zero share of costs and have medical needs requiring nursing home care.

It offers free iPads with data plans, setup and training to older adults making less than $75,000 a year. This office partners with GetSetUp, a specialist in senior education, to offer hundreds of live online classes at no cost to help older adults learn new skills and connect with others. Topics include arts and crafts, language learning, computer training and chair yoga.Trained professionals are available for free to visit senior communities and speak on aging-related topics, such as safety and maintenance of mobility aids, frailty syndrome prevention and social security fraud prevention. Dorothy Visser Senior Center | (949) 498-3322 | Located in downtown San Clemente, Dorothy Visser Senior Center serves lunches developed by a registered dietitian for older adults 60 and older to meet their nutritional needs. To participate, seniors need to make reservations. While a donation of $5.50 for each meal is requested, no one is denied service due to inability to pay. The well-equipped fitness center opens Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and offers classes on strength and flexibility, chair yoga, mat yoga and CPR. A weight-loss club meets and holds weigh-ins every week. Technical help and instructions are available in the computer lab, and seniors can get food and everyday essentials from the Senior Grocery Program. It offers online classes and events, such as balance and mobility classes, book clubs and brain exercise programs, to help older adults stay healthy and engaged. The Non-Emergency Medical Transportation program provides bus and van services to older adults 60 and over for health appointments, including therapy, testing, prescription pick-ups, physicians and dentists.
