Saint Charles’ assisted living cost of $3,750 is $750 higher than the state’s cost of $3,000 per month. It’s more than $500 lower than the national cost of $4,300 and more than $1,300 lower than the Kansas median — the highest assisted living cost in the region. Saint Charles and Oklahoma share the same monthly median of $3,750. Nebraska, to the north-west and Iowa to the north are in the middle of the pack at $4,188 and $4,073, respectively.
The costs of assisted living in Missouri’s larger cities vary widely. Joplin has the lowest cost in the state at $2,500, while Kansas City has the highest at $4,460. St Charles is in the middle, close to St. Joseph. Jefferson City and Springfield are somewhat cheaper for the state at $3,150 and $3,100, respectively.

The Missouri state Medicaid plan, MO Healthnet, covers the cost of nursing home care for residents of 65 years and older with certain conditions. Applicants must meet the financial requirements and must require nursing home care which includes 24-hour nursing care, therapy, nutrition management and activities. The state also has a Supplemental Nursing Care program that assists with the expenses of living in an assisted living facility. Missouri’s Pharmacy Assistance program additionally provides up to 50% of payments on prescription medications for those who are eligible for Medicaid and Medicare.
