Saginaw seniors who need help covering assisted living costs may be eligible for the MI Choice waiver program. This Medicaid waiver is available to nursing home-eligible seniors who meet certain asset and income requirements. Eligible seniors can choose to receive waiver services in assisted living communities. These services include personal care, nursing care and transportation.

These centers offer a wide variety of senior programming, including exercise classes, blood pressure screenings and daily lunches. The department also operates the Foster Grandparent program, which gives seniors the opportunity to share their wisdom with children. Through another county program, eligible seniors can receive a free mobile phone for emergencies.

Through its Minority Senior Outreach and Advocacy program, it helps seniors access local services, as well as programs such as Medicaid and Medicare. Seniors can also sign up for one-day field trips to museums, art centers and other local destinations. A yearly membership costs $60 and entitles seniors to a 50% discount on classes and trips.
Saginaw Transit Authority Regional Services (STARS)(989) 907-4000STARS operates a fixed-route bus service in the Saginaw metropolitan area, and riders over 60 pay half-priced fares. A paratransit service, STARS Lift, is available for seniors who can’t ride the fixed-route buses. The STARS Lift provides complimentary curb-to-curb rides, and when requested, drivers can provide assistance beyond the curb. Reservations are required and can be made up to 14 days in advance.
