Medi-Cal, the California Medicare program, helps low-income seniors cover the costs of assisted living. Seniors aged 65 and older are eligible to apply for this entitlement program. California also offers the Home and Community-Based Alternatives waiver, which can help seniors who need the level of care provided in a nursing home to receive that care in a community setting, such as an assisted living facility.
