Assisted Living in Mobile, Alabama

Mobile, AL, is located at the southern tip of Alabama, a large port city on Alabama’s Gulf Coast. As a former naval base, Mobile has a rich military history. Today, military veterans and WW2 buffs flock to Mobile to tour the USS Alabama and visit the Battleship Memorial Park military vessel museum. Mobile isn’t just all military – this community also boasts beautiful Botanical Gardens, open year-round due to the region’s warm weather. Meaher State Park, which covers the shores and seaside, is another popular spot for walking along the beach or exploring local wildlife and flora.

Besides having plenty to do and see, Mobile also offers other features that attract retirees. Alabama is tax-friendly towards seniors, with no state income tax on SSI and tax breaks on other retirement income, as well. This, plus a cost of living nearly 20 points lower than the national average, may help the elderly stretch their dollars farther. Seniors in Mobile make up 16% of the city’s population of 189,000. These individuals will likely need accommodations in one of the area’s many assisted living communities.

Monthly fees for assisted living in Mobile average $3,200, although depending on location and amenities, costs between facilities can vary.
