Further north in Midland, monthly fees average $4,200. In Detroit, the average cost of assisted living is $4,625 per month. Fees tend to be lower to the west of the state, with the median charges in Kalamazoo being $3,600. Further west again, in Muskegon, costs are even lower at just $3,350 per month. Battle Creek has some of the lowest assisted living fees in the state, at an average of $3,000 per month.
Healthy Michigan is a state Medicaid program that can be used to pay for some of the costs associated with assisted living services in Lansing. In addition to this program, low-income seniors may be eligible for the MI Choice Medicaid Waiver, which covers the cost of certain additional assisted living services. This waiver is designed to help seniors who may otherwise require a nursing home level of care to remain within the community by providing them with access to additional care services in their homes or an assisted living setting.
