Assisted Living in Greenville, South Carolina

Greenville, South Carolina, is in the northern part of the state, yet just a few hours’ drive from the Atlantic Coast. This warm, friendly southern city is home to the Greenville County Museum of Art, which houses a rather large collection of works from Southern artists that span across centuries. The community has several large parks with walking trails winding around the Reedy River and is close enough to Charlotte, NC, and Columbus, SC, to access big-city amenities and international airports.

Greenville is warm year-round, with hot, humid summers and mild winters with rare snow. A cost of living lower than the national average combined with no state tax on Social Security income and generous tax breaks on other sources of income makes Greenville a popular destination for retirees. In fact, 13% of Greenville’s population of 71,000 are seniors aged 65 and older.

Many of these seniors will need accommodations in assisted living as they age. The average monthly cost of assisted living in Greenville is $3,806. However, the individual costs of each facility will vary depending on location and the services offered, among other factors.

Greenville Assisted Living Financial Assistance

Seniors in South Carolina may be eligible for the Community Choices Waiver to help offset the costs of assisted living. Also known as the Elderly and Disabled Waiver, it is funded through South Carolina Medicare and open to those who meet eligibility criteria, including age and income levels. Through this program, seniors may opt to receive home health care and homemaker services in an assisted living community, instead of a nursing home. Once enrolled in South Carolina Medicare, seniors with a documented need for nursing home-levels of care may apply for the Community Choices Waiver.
