Beaufort is a city in the Hilton Head Metro area and is the second-oldest city in South Carolina. It’s located on Port Royal Island, which is part of the Sea Islands, and it’s about 90 minutes down the South Carolina coast from port city Charleston. Active seniors have a variety of cultural and historical landmarks to explore, including the grave of Civil War figure Robert Smalls, Penn Center, and the Parris Island Historical and Museum Society, which highlights the history of the U.S. Marine Corps.
