Santa Monica Health Care Cente

Santa Monica Health Care Center is situated just across the street from Saint John’s Health Center. The brick facility is inconspicuous, peeking out from behind a row of jacaranda trees. Arbor View Rehab Center, under the same ownership, sits adjacent. To the left of the entrance, a barren yard looks primed for planting&#8212the lawn to the right is fuller with mature trimmed hedges. The central patio is gorgeous and vast. Plants grow at the base of an aged tree, which is bathed in outdoor lighting at night. Sitting at one of the table sets, residents sometimes catch a glimpse of a winged visitor cooling off in the birdbath.

The lobby is clean and tasteful with polished light wood floors, blue throw rugs, swag curtains and artwork on the walls. Comfortable chairs and settees provide ample space to sit. The small multipurpose room, used for activities and meals, overlooks the patio. In warmer weather, outdoor dining is a treat. Resident rooms are average in size and have wood floors, painted walls, green bedspreads and matching privacy curtains. Some open up to the patio while others face the street. While most of the residents are here for short-term rehab, a few residents fell in love with the facility when they first came and now call it their permanent home. These folks seemed to do a nice job personalizing their rooms. One benefit of moving into this small facility is the level of personal attention one receives. Staff members know all the residents and their families, which creates a nurturing, homelike environment.
