Oakland Care Center

Oakland Care Center is situated behind the Alta Bates Summit Medical Center in North Oakland’s “Pill Hill,” an area populated with numerous health-related facilities. Residents often gather in the simple, furnished common area just past the entry. The center features cozy resident rooms; each has a view of one of the four courtyards. Although somewhat dated, the rooms are adequately furnished and neatly kept. The two dining areas serve different purposes: one is for formal dining service, the other doubles as an activity room. The facility is divided into two wings, one of which accommodates a higher acuity clientele. A whirlpool bathtub provides soothing therapy.

The outdoor area resembles a schoolyard, with its neatly trimmed lawns and open design. The patio furniture is sparse but adequate. Potted plants add touches of color here and there. Residents frequently gather in the west courtyard, which faces bustling Broadway Oakland Care Center (continued) Avenue and its entertaining pedestrian traffic. The broad hallways are equipped with handrails. Plentiful windows throughout the facility let in an abundance of light. The walls are strewn with information bulletins.
