Commonwealth Royale Guest Home sits in a rundown residential neighborhood, but the gated facility is secure. An understated elegance permeates the lobby, with bold accents such as gold columns and an ornate gold mirror. Messages on a large bulletin board alert residents to upcoming activities and events. Residents unwind in either of two cozy TV lounges. One is a bit more spacious. Soft teddy bears resting on the furniture are comforting and endearing. In addition to framed prints, arts and crafts projects hang from the walls. When not expressing their creativity through arts and crafts, residents play games, exercise and take trips, sometimes to exciting locations like Las Vegas! Two patios, one with lots of bushes, are enjoyable spots to lounge. The two dining rooms are comfortable but quite casual, with white metal pieces that reminded us of patio furniture.
Residents’ accommodations resemble hotel rooms, with large sliding door closets and plain wooden furnishings. First-floor rooms have patios, although many residents use the communal outdoor areas to smoke and socialize. When we visited, staff members and residents interacted warmly, watching TV, lounging and generally enjoying each other’s company.
