Traffic cruises past Diablo Lodge, where it dwells amid flowers, manicured shrubs and trees. Walkways and benches in the landscaped patio area offer recreation and relaxation within a beautiful oasis. Water pours from the mouth of a stone lion that decorates the fountain. We were welcomed with scrumptious freshly baked cookies at the front desk. The home is imbued with light, thanks to a combination of skylights, windows, lamps and wall sconces, which show off the beautifully upholstered furnishings. These features, along with antiques and flourishing plants impart an upscale feel. Handrails border the wide hallways. The home features a library and an activity room, in addition to the numerous seating areas where we observed residents conversing in small, animated groups.
In the center of the spacious, elegant dining area, residents sat at tables beneath a gazebo-like structure of light wooden beams hung with billowy pink curtains. The friendly waitstaff served lunch, which included healthful offerings approved by the American Heart Association. The staff, a pleasant group, praised the appetizing meals. A juice bar is housed in one corner of the dining area. The facility also boasts a large private dining room, which may be reserved for special occasions. Residents love to engage in friendly games of bingo and blackjack. They often socialize over a glass of wine or a beer as they watch guest performances. Scenic drives and exercise classes are offered as well. Tai chi and stretching are popular. Many residents grow plants in their rooms, all of which feature individual patios or balconies.
