According to the Genworth Cost of Care 2020 Survey, the monthly median rates for an assisted living community in Seminole are $475 below Florida’s average at $3,225 and $1,075 lower than the national average. Rates in Seminole are $75 higher than in the adjacent state of Alabama and $225 below Georgia’s median.
Seminole is one of the most cost-effective areas for assisted living in the state. Miami ($3,500) and Orlando ( $3,700) are in a similar price range but still cost a few hundred dollars more per month. Costs in North Port and Punta Gorda are near the $4,000 mark and well above those in Seminole, while in cities such as Homosassa Springs ($4,527), Gainesville ($4,571) and Port St. Lucie ($4,399), costs are at least $1,000 higher.

Florida has two waiver programs to help low-income seniors with the cost of assisted living. Older adults who are eligible for Medicaid and at risk of nursing home placement may receive financial assistance through the Statewide Medicaid Managed Care Long-Term Care Program. The Optional State Supplementation program may pay for a portion of the assisted living costs for low-income seniors ineligible for Medicaid.
