The Lighthouse

Hearing the name “The Lighthouse,” one might imagine a towering construct, but this facility is actually a quaint one-story building with a fitting nautical theme throughout the interior. An anchor hangs in the main lobby, as well as a life ring painted with the salutation, “Welcome aboard!” All the walls throughout the building were recently repainted. The huge activity room doubles as a living room. Residents play games, read books from the facility’s collection or watch TV while sitting on supple leather couches. A piano in the corner creates a lovely musical nook. The dining room is quite inviting. We were told the soups are very popular, with borscht and clam chowder as favorites. The lunchtime Salisbury steak looked pretty scrumptious, too.

Resident rooms are spacious and bright, with moderately sized windows. Every room has a mini refrigerator and a walk-in closet that are convenient enhancements. Varied activities such as movie nights, Bible study, table games and music compose the activity schedule. The expansive, partially covered patio offers a great spot to relax on a bench and enjoy the outdoor scenery. A sculpture at the center is a nice decorative touch. We saw several residents chatting outside during our visit. Others watched TV in the activity room after lunch. While no formal activities were being conducted at the time of our visit, everyone seemed content, alert and occupied.
