Sunrise of Woodland Hills

Sunrise of Woodland Hills houses both independent and assisted living residents in a luxurious setting. A wrought-iron fence frames the property, and palm and elm trees border the brown mansion. The front porch contains comfortable benches and wooden rocking chairs. Wooden lawn furniture with red umbrellas fills the cozy backyard. Large potted plants flank the front entrance. A small waiting area inside has a green carpet and several armchairs. The Sunrise mission statement, “to champion quality of life for seniors” is prominently displayed on a poster behind the receptionist’s desk. To the right of the desk, a grand staircase leads to the second floor.

Impressionist paintings and candles adorn the facility, creating an upscale atmosphere. In the dining room, comfortable-looking armchairs surround cloth-covered tables. Just beyond the dining room is the bistro, which serves coffee, tea and snacks. All the socials are held in this attractive area. On the day of our visit, the day’s lunch selections were veal parmesan and a seafood dish. The library isn’t just a room for scholarly pursuits; it’s also an inviting social spot. In addition to round wooden tables and chairs with floral upholstery, there’s also an overstuffed sofa and a crackling fireplace. The TV room boasts a dark wood pool table and a classic grandfather clock. Even the hallways are inviting, peppered with sofas, tables and books in little conversation nooks. Activities include card games, baking classes, movie nights and bowling outings. The signature “bathtique” room offers a state-of-the-art therapy tub.

Independent and assisted living residents inhabit lovely apartments with green carpet and beige wallpaper. First floor units have balconies. The Reminiscence Neighborhood houses residents with dementia in a separate unit that offers special programming. Round tables and armchairs fill the dining room. The adjacent activity room contains one long table. One room provides a quiet spot to rest on chaise lounges covered with soft sheepskin-like material. Calming music soothes the senses. At the time of our visit, we saw many residents visiting with family members.
