Attleboro Village is a thriving community that is divided in to three sections: Attleboro Retirement Village, the independent living component; The Brunswick, which houses assisted living residents; and Attleboro Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, the skilled nursing unit. The expansive campus, which has the cloistered atmosphere of a small college, sits on a quiet, tree-lined street. A walking path surrounds Retirement Village, a configuration of three connected structures. The welcome center, a historic building from the late seventeenth century, houses administrative staff and two guest rooms. The two dining rooms in Retirement Village are stunning. Several seating areas with numerous skylights invite pre-meal mingling. Residents socialize in the woodshop, craft room, billiards room and store. Outside one building, which contains an auditorium and fitness room, we found a delightful garden. The independent living social calendar offers exercise, religious services, book clubs, lectures and movies. Scheduled jaunts to theme parks and museums keep life interesting. The Brunswick is just a short walk from the welcome center. The blue color scheme in the dining room soothes the senses. The adjacent patio features a fragrant herb garden. When we visited, two singers were entertaining while a pianist tickled the ivories on a gorgeous organ in the activity room. The lounge and balcony café are two hopping spots. Inquisitive residents enjoy access to an impressive library and enhance their online skills in the computer room, with a little help from their peers. The Brunswick houses a secure unit called Aria, for residents with dementia. The uncluttered area is pleasant and bright, with colorful décor. The dining room doubles as an activity room. These residents remain onsite to ensure their safety, but exercise often walking along the “wander loop” in the facility. A private family room accommodates visits with family and friends. Each floor has its own social workers and dining rooms, which are also used for activities. A “serenity” lounge on the second floor features a vast mural of trees. Staff members give stimulating hand massages and engage residents in activities, including reminiscing, Name that Sound, exercise, religious services and birthday celebrations. Activities are designed to stimulate the mind and body, with options such as current events discussions, games, chair dancing, creative writing and sign language classes.
