Aegis of Pleasant Hill exudes luxury. The opulent surroundings include high ceilings strewn with chandeliers, classic prints in gold frames, leather chairs and plush couches. Silk floral arrangements are elegantly fashioned atop glass tables in the welcoming lobby. Life’s Neighborhood, the facility’s secured Alzheimer’s unit, has a separate entrance. The unit features era-appropriate décor to help residents feel comfortable.

Residents’ rooms range from moderate to large. Each allows plenty of natural light. Rooms in Life’s Neighborhood are equipped with motion detectors to prevent unsupervised wandering. Aegis’ abundant common areas include a main dining area, an activity room, a library and card room as well as a roomy space with a fireplace and piano; the activity director occasionally treats residents to a performance on the piano.

The cozy layout of Life’s Neighborhood allows staff better accessibility to the residents, in addition to facilitating greater interaction between the residents. Here, the dining room doubles as the activity area. The comfortably furnished main area features a TV and music equipment. Patriotic displays and various memorabilia personalize the common areas.

The garden is a picturesque scene of potted flowers and lofty oaks and maples, where walking paths encircle the fountain. Residents enjoy morning walks, group exercise and family visits in this verdant refuge. The building receives ample natural light; soft artificial lighting is prevalent in the hallways.

At the time of our visit, residents were preparing for a charity chili cook-off with the local fire department. Local radio was slated to cover the event—it was clear to see why the house buzzed with enthusiasm! Mainstays such as bingo are enjoyed nearly every day. Park and shopping outings are other favorite activities. Life’s Neighborhood residents have a more structured activity program; some of their preferred activities include supervised walks, exercise classes and musical entertainment.
