The county seat of Muskingum County, Zanesville, is a small town with a population of 25,000 that includes roughly 4,400 seniors ages 65 and older. Ohio’s Assisted Living Waiver is a Medicaid program for those who already meet Medicaid’s income and eligibility requirements. This program will cover the costs so that recipients cover only “room and board” expenses. Muskingum County Center for Seniors(740) 454-9761 The central hub for senior activities in the Zanesville area, the Muskingum County Center for Seniors, provides various activities and supportive services. Local seniors ages 60 and older are invited to weekday lunches at one of three congregate dining sites for a suggested donation of $3.00. Individuals can come to the Center to have their blood pressure checked or to participate in a health and wellness presentation. Information regarding care choices and Medicare counseling, as well as referrals for services, are available. Seniors can also visit the Center to enjoy a yoga class with friends, create a greeting card for family members or sing in the gospel choir. 
Area Agency on Aging, Region 9(800) 945-4250Serving Muskingum and neighboring Ohio counties, the Area Agency on Aging Region 9 is the first stop for identifying and connecting with relevant services and supports for seniors. Seniors and their caregivers can meet with a Registered Nurse or Social Worker in their homes to discuss long-term care plans and needs. During this free evaluation, the consultant will go over eligible services, including Ohio’s Assisted Living Waiver Program, as well as any eligibility requirements. Individuals can also call to speak with a Certified Information and Referral Specialist. Caregivers also have access to assistance through the Caregiver Program, case management and care planning. AAA Region 9 also connects seniors with meaningful volunteer opportunities, instilling a sense of purpose and greater self-worth.    
Muskingum County’s Veterans Services(740) 455-7149The Muskingum County Veterans Services advocates on behalf of senior veterans and their family members to ensure they receive the benefits and services they are entitled to. Counselors are available to assist in applying for benefits or emergency financial assistance for basic living expenses. Veterans and dependents needing medical care at either the Columbus or Chillicothe medical facilities can receive transportation to and from their appointments. 
Zanesville VA Clinic(740) 453-7725Senior veterans and their family members can receive primary health care at the Zanesville VA Clinic. Also available at this location is mental health services, helping seniors struggling with anxiety or depression. Additionally, nutritional services, as well as eye care, are provided. The Zanesville VA Clinic also hosts walk-in clinics for those wishing to schedule their flu vaccination.
Southeast Ohio Legal Services(888) 831-9412Serving seniors throughout Muskingum County, Southeast Ohio Legal Services provides help to low-income individuals to improve their quality of life. SEOLS can help individuals with issues pertaining to assisted living communities, Social Security, living wills, power of attorney and donor registration. Applications can be completed by phone or in person at the local office in nearby Newark.
