The local AAA serving the city of Richmond, VA, is dedicated to assisting older adults maintain their lifestyle and a high quality of life. They provide support to caregivers and resources to seniors who are in an assisted living facility or who are preparing to join one of these communities. The Capital Area Agency on Aging in VA administers the No Wrong Door Program, information and referral services and the Benefits Enrollment Center (BEC). The No Wrong Door Program helps seniors access the health care they need, allows providers to share referrals securely, ensuring retirees in Richmond get the care they need. The BEC provides assistance to seniors looking to enroll in savings programs like the Medicare Savings Programs or Supplement Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). 

VA Insurance Counseling and Assistance Program

This program is administered through the local Area Agency on Area (AAA). The goal of the VICAP program is to provide seniors in Richmond with unbiased and confidential assistance to maximize their benefits. The program is free and available to all Medicare beneficiaries. The counselors can aid seniors in filing for low-income benefits, health care appeals, grievances and medical benefits. 

Ride Connection

The Ride Connection transportation program is available to VA adults aged 60+ and is partially funded through the Virginia Department of Rail & Public Transportation. The program provides assistance with discounted GRTC fixed route tickets and CareVan tickets. It also provides two round-trip rides for people living in the City of Richmond to help them reach their medical appointments. Seniors using the program must pay a portion of the cost based on a sliding scale (determined by their income) and provide 7 days’ notice when they require transportation services. 

Linwood Robinson Center

The Linwood Robinson Center is the only senior center that is operated by the City of Richmond. The center’s services are available to all Richmond residents who are sixty and older. There are opportunities for socialization, cultural enrichment activities, health and wellness initiatives, transportation information and assistance with referral services. By joining the Linwood Robinson Center, seniors have a chance to improve their quality of life while getting help with various services they may not realize they have access to or receiving advocacy support from trained professionals. An interview or assessment is required to obtain membership. 

Central Virginia Legal Aid Society (CVLAS)

The Central Virginia Legal Aid Society is a non-profit established in 1971 that provides free legal aid to low-income people (in civil cases). They also offer legal preventative education in Richmond, VA.
