With those aged 65 and over comprising 38.8% of Prescott’s population of approximately 46,000 citizens, it’s obvious that the city is a desirable retirement destination. Although Prescott has a higher cost of living than the state and U.S. averages, Arizona seniors enjoy a fairly tax-friendly fiscal landscape, with no state tax on Social Security benefits and no inheritance or estate taxes. Assisted living in Prescott averages $4,500 per month, which is the same as the national average.

Assisted living is a long-term care option designed for those who can no longer live alone but don’t require the type of 24-hour clinical care provided in nursing home settings. Typical services offered by assisted living communities include housekeeping, meal preparation, and basic personal care such as help with bathing, dressing and grooming.

This guide provides an introduction to assisted living in Prescott. Included are cost comparisons to other Arizona communities and a list of resources designed to promote independence and a good quality of life among senior citizens.
