Regionally, West Virginia’s costs are several hundred dollars lower than Virginia’s, whose costs average $4,850 a month and Ohio’s, whose costs average $4,350 a month. Pennsylvania’s costs are slightly less expensive at $3,995, while Kentucky’s average $3,609 a month.
Assisted living costs in other communities in West Virginia are higher than Huntington’s. Wheeling averages $3,906 a month. Charleston, the capital city of West Virginia, averages $4,000 a month. Parkersburg is approximately $1,000 more expensive than Huntington at $4,769. Beckley averages $5,000 a month. Weirton, located near the Ohio and Pennsylvania borders, averages $4,677 a month. Morgantown is the most expensive location at $5,810 a month.
A program available through Medicaid, the Aged and Disabled Waiver offers monthly assistance for seniors who need help with activities of daily living. The senior meets regularly with a registered nurse to formulate a plan that works for their specific needs. The program can also cover other medically necessary services. Counselors also assist with medical bills and insurance claims, and they can provide information on programs that help seniors save on prescription drugs and other medical costs in West Virginia. |
