Torrance Care Center East

This block building is hemmed in by a parking lot and driveway. Older commercial and medical buildings make up the surrounding area. Torrance Care Center West, a sister facility, sits adjacent. Torrance Care Center East has a young population of patients with disabilities and those requiring rehab as well as a number of elderly residents.

A diminutive patio behind the facility features benches, small trees and colorful flowers. Many visitors enter through the rear doorway closest to the patio. The interior collates beige and off-white colors into simple patterns in the walls and floors. Some slight wear is noticeable on the walls; however, the entire facility is impeccably clean. Walls are cheered by eye-catching prints and plastic flower arrangements. Seating areas near the entrance have comfortable and well-maintained furnishings. Remodeling has been ongoing since 2000. Residents’ rooms are moderately sized to large; all have windows overlooking the patio, or sliding glass doors leading outside. Closets are shared, but there are shelves to house additional personal items. During our tour, residents were heading into the activity room for an afternoon activity; the room also doubles as the dining area. The utilitarian furnishings and décor make certain that the room is made to withstand wear-and-tear. The outdoor patios are quite pleasant. One is reserved solely for smoking; as such, smoking on other patios is banned. The “fresh air” patios sport seating areas with potted trees and flowers dotted throughout. Security cameras are trained on all exits, and all doors and gates have electromagnetic locks. The facility also utilizes Wanderguard devices. The day of our visit was particularly pleasant&#8212many residents were seated in these safe and comfortable patio areas chatting with one another and enjoying the weather. Activities center on birthday celebrations and ice cream socials. Movies tend to draw in a large audience. Staff was seen throughout the facility being helpful and friendly to residents. Many staffers have been working at the facility for ten to fifteen years; one has worked here for forty! Transportation to appointments is arranged with outside vendors for a fee. …. SHOW MORE
