People often choose to relocate when they retire. Unfortunately, they sometimes make the wrong choice the first time, and then they have to relocate again. Here are some tips on how to avoid a bad first move.

One person is interested in outdoor sports and the other cares more about visits from grandchildren

Find a retirement locale that makes both of you happy

Not enough interest

You move to a community that does not have an organization or activity that is important to you

List your retirement interests, including leisure activities, volunteer opportunities, churches and clubs, community services, cultural activities, adult education classes, etc. Make sure the community you are considering meets those needs

Unseasonable

A community to which you were attracted during a vacation turns out to be unappealing at other times of the year

Visit during the off-season, or consider renting before making commitment

Overgrown

A few years after you move, intensive development has spoiled your lifestyle
