Q: I am bored with the décor in my living room. Is there some way that I can make an entertainment stand that will store my equipment and add a bit of style?
Signed,

A: Does this apply to your feelings about your stuff? Snap out of it by creating an entertainment stand that will rival any purchased in a store.
Remember the Neil Simon movie Barefoot in the Park? Jane Fonda and Robert Redford had a wonderfully funky walkup apartment. Shelves made from stacked white bricks supporting plain pine boards pulled their charmingly inconvenient apartment together. Try version 2001 by incorporating glass brick as your support. The great thing about this kind of unit is it's cheap, movable and can be reconfigured any way you like. A great look for any apartment, shelves serve a dual purpose: they can hold your TV and VCR while still making a stage for your books and other collections.
So, take a quick trip to your local hardware store and do the 60's shelving thing.
If glass brick isn't your thing, heavy terracotta pots filled with sand can be interspersed to hold up the shelves. Play this project by ear. Go too high and it can all come tumbling down. If you have kids, reinforce your unit with wall brackets (yes, that requires screws). |
