Q: I have a spiral staircase. Any idea to accent it?
Michele
A: You're very lucky to have such an interesting feature in your apartment! I also have a small spiral staircase in my house that leads to a roof deck. Over the years I have tried many different ways to accent it. Here are a few thoughts:
- In order to make it stand out, we paint wooden steps in alternating primary colors-- bright yellow, red, blue, etc. Very fun!
- If yours is antique looking you might want to accent the wall in back of it with a mural or patterned wallpaper. You could even use library-themed wallpaper and surround it with books and shelves.
- For a more surreal look, add stick on lights under each stair.
- Go crazy and drape the railing in gauzy material or grape vine.
Just keep it fresh and fun. Decorating is an experiment. You'll come up with the right thing for you. |
