Brookdale Oak Hollow

A verdant lawn and abundant parking lay before Oak Hollow, a pinkish brick building marked by a covered entrance and black shingled roof. Pastel color schemes and plush furniture accented with pillows decorate the common areas. A wood-burning fireplace flanked by bookcases warms residents as they read on a comfortable couch in one of the common rooms. Patterned pink wallpaper and shelves of knickknacks create a country-like atmosphere in the dining room. Residents enjoyed a delicious meal of fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans and Jell-O during our visit. Homemade apple pie with hot apple cider were recent Halloween goodies. The snack table is laden with nutritious offerings including bananas, apples and crackers. Natural and fluorescent lights illuminate the facility. The wide hallways feature several large signs to direct residents and guests. Bay windows flood a hallway seating area with light.

Baseboards line the white walls of residents’ large, sunny rooms. Some of the rooms boast individual closets. Chairs in the walk-in showers provide a practical touch.

Staff members encourage residents to spend time outside of their rooms socializing. Oak Hollow’s management runs a tight ship to ensure the facility is tidy and the residents are comfortable. The varied activities scheduled on the facility’s calendar impressed us—it is one of the most diverse we have ever seen! Activities range from cooking therapy to seasonal parties. Residents perform regular mental exercises, such as playing trivia games, as well as a variety of physical activities. They also attend festivals and weekly restaurant outings. Residents often opt to spend time in the building’s inner courtyard, where an awning shades black wrought iron furniture. Walkways cut a path through the lawn and shrubbery to a lovely area decorated with pansies, trees and a fountain.
